How to Book a Wedding Magician: When, Where and for How Long

Couples often tell me they love the idea of a magician at their wedding but are not sure how it fits into the day. The good news is that it fits in easily, because a magician works in the gaps that already exist.

Where magic fits into a wedding day

The drinks reception. This is the most popular choice. Guests are mingling, you are having photos, and magic keeps everyone entertained rather than waiting around. It also helps people from both sides of the family meet each other.

The wedding breakfast. I visit tables between courses, a few minutes each, so it never gets in the way of the food or the speeches. Each table gets its own small moment.

The evening. Some couples add magic once the formalities are over, either walking between guests or as a short stage show that brings everyone together at once.

How long should you book for?

It depends mainly on guest numbers. With close up magic I can usually reach around 50 to 60 people per hour. For a wedding with 100 guests, about two hours of close up magic lets everyone see something. For bigger weddings I may suggest more time or a short stage show.

For how the two formats compare, see close up magic or a stage show. For budgeting, see what a magician costs in the UK.

The simplest approach is to send your guest count and timings and ask for a recommendation.

How far ahead to book

As soon as your date is confirmed. Popular Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays can book months ahead. Last minute bookings are sometimes possible too, so it is still worth asking.

Venue and travel

I am based in London and regularly perform throughout the UK, including Hertfordshire, where I have performed weddings at The Grove, Knebworth House and Tewin Bury Farm. I also travel internationally for selected weddings.

Can the magician also host?

Yes. If you would like someone to handle introductions, announcements and speeches and keep the day on schedule, I can do that with magic along the way. See event hosting.
